Arkansas Soybean Month 2015

Governor Hutchinson proclaims November as Arkansas Soybean Month. This annual recognition serves as a reminder of the great impact the soybean industry has on our state. In the 2015 growing season, Arkansas achieved its highest average yield in history, which secured our rank as 10th in the nation in soybean production.

During the month of November, the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board (ASPB) will educate Arkansans about the economic impact they have on local soybean farmers. Soybeans, also known as the “miracle bean,” can be found in almost every aisle of the supermarket and even in most hardware stores. Soybeans deliver essential nutrients and high-quality protein to Arkansans and farm animals, such as poultry, through their diets. The poultry industry relies heavily on soybean meal since they consume about half of all the meal produced, which makes Arkansas second in the nation in broiler production.

“We want to take this opportunity to draw attention to the enormous contribution Arkansas soybean farmers make to our state’s economy. 2015 was a record breaking year for us, which placed us in the top 10 soybean producing states in the nation. In addition, we have an important soy foods initiative going on right now with the Kitchen|Fields Table Tour. November is Arkansas Soybean Month, but it’s also a month dedicated to thanking Arkansans for making this year a success, “said West Higginbothom, chairman of Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board.

There are many ways to support Arkansas farmers, but one program from ASPB promotes the relationship between the local soybean farmer and the local restaurant industry. The Kitchen|Fields Table Tour, an educational program launched by the ASPB, is an exclusive partnership with four Arkansas restaurants. During each restaurants’ three month feature, they serve a dish centered around soybeans. By eating more soy and other foods that consume soy, Arkansans contribute to Arkansas’ $2 billion soybean industry. Incorporating soy into your everyday routine is easy.
