Boyce Johnson

Boyce Johnson has been on a farm for all his life. His family owns the same farmland spanning back generations. Boyce took those skills to college and graduated from University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with degrees in agriculture and animal science.

He continues to farm, growing corn and wheat, but he experiments with other crops too. He has previously grown cotton, and he may try milo if the weather conditions stay good. Boyce says weather can be one of the most challenging parts of farming. He explains one year you can be in a drought, and then next year there’s too much rain; but he loves to watch the crops grow and that’s what keeps him going.

Roles outside of ASPB: Boyce has been a part of the Arkansas Farm Bureau for more than 40 years. He was also the president of the Crittenden County farm bureau office.

The Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board in Boyce’s words: There’s a lot of research that goes into providing better quality soybeans and soy products. When there’s continued education and promotion of soybeans that can help the general consumer understand what they are buying.

Favorite soy product: Biodiesel.

What are innovations or advancements in the soybean industry you find exciting: Boyce is proud of the advancements of biodiesel in Arkansas. He has spent part of his career learning about how biodiesel can help farmers and he believes it’s a product that is here to stay.
