Matthew Roberson

Matthew Roberson grew up in rural Cross County where farming was the backbone of his community. He worked on several farms as a kid, tending to different crops, like soybeans. After graduation and the tragedy of 9/11, Matthew felt called to join the Army National Guard where he served two overseas deployments, including Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After his deployments, Matthew wanted to continue serving the community. He founded Arkansas Precision Ag, a business that provides drone-based plant health insights to help farmers optimize yields. His company is showing success for local farmers as they can make better-informed decisions with the use of new technology.

What makes soybeans interesting: Soybeans have a great balance of profitability and sustainability. They’re a strong rotational crop that improves soil health by replenishing nitrogen, which helps other crops grow stronger and produce better yields.

Do you grow other crops besides soybeans: Yes, there is rice, wheat, and corn.

Personal motto: What you get out of something, depends on how much effort you put into it.

What is a goal you wish to accomplish as an ASPB board member: Matthew’s goal is to learn as much as possible from other members, and to help make sure checkoff dollars continue to support and strengthen Arkansas soybean farmers.

What should Arkansans know about the soybean industry: Matthew wishes more people understood the dedication and hard work that goes into growing soybean crops. He says many Arkansans don’t realize how much the soybean industry contributes to the state’s economy.

Favorite soy product: Goodyear tires and Sketchers shoes.

What are innovations or advancements in the soybean industry you find exciting: The growing use of drone technology in farming is exciting. It’s already making a noticeable impact for farmers and the demand continues to grow.
